Scribe, a free tool

Turn words or sketches into a hand-drawn video.

Paste code or text, or draw your own sketch. Scribe replays every stroke with the Todrawn pen and exports a whiteboard animation for your shorts, docs or slides.

How it works

1. Create

Paste code or text, upload a file, or sketch directly with a mouse, finger or pen.

2. Watch

The Todrawn pen writes your words or replays your drawing stroke by stroke at a consistent pace.

3. Download

Sign in and export the animation at 720p or 1080p, 24 or 30 fps, vertical or wide. Rendering still happens in your browser.

What is this?

Todrawn Scribe is a free tool that turns code, text or your own freehand sketch into a whiteboard animation. A virtual pen writes or redraws the work stroke by stroke at a pace you control, and the result exports as a video for shorts and reels, tutorials, slides and docs. Composing, playback and video encoding all happen in your browser, so your code, text and drawings are never uploaded and there is nothing to install.

It is not a screen recorder, and it is not always the right choice instead of one. A recording keeps the environment: the editor, the terminal, the cursor finding the right line. Scribe keeps only the part you want remembered, drawn as strokes on a clean board, so the output does not depend on your window size, your colour theme or whatever else was open. Reach for a recording when the environment is the lesson, and for Scribe when the reasoning is.

Who it is for

Developers

Explain a branch, a call site or a config change without touring your desktop. Paste the snippet, pick a syntax profile, and let the pen walk through it line by line.

Educators

Build a short lesson that reads like handwriting on a board. Vertical 9:16 fits shorts and reels; wide 16:9 drops straight into slides.

Documentation

Turn a paragraph of docs or a release note into a clip that sits beside the text. Upload a plain text or code file up to 100 KB and the pen does the rest.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Scribe's editor and preview are free without an account. Downloading requires a free account, which includes 5 free exports a day; Premium accounts export without limits.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Scribe runs in the browser. Composing, playback and encoding all happen locally, so there is no plugin, no desktop app and no upload step. Downloading the finished video needs an up-to-date desktop browser.

Does my work leave my computer?

No. Your code, text and drawing stay in your browser, and the animation and video are generated locally. When you export, Todrawn stores only the fact of the export: its format and duration.

What video formats do I get?

Scribe first tries MP4 through H.264 WebCodecs. If unavailable, MediaRecorder chooses a supported type, trying WebM first but possibly returning MP4. Choose 720p or 1080p, 24 or 30 fps, vertical 9:16 or wide 16:9.

How much can one video cover?

Long inputs are trimmed to the first 500 lines, and uploaded files can be up to 100 KB. Export at 720p or 1080p, 24 or 30 fps, vertical 9:16 or wide 16:9.

Why is there a small todrawn.com mark?

FREE exports carry a small hand-drawn todrawn.com wordmark in the corner. PREMIUM and lifetime exports have no watermark; every preview stays clean.
